This new candy brand was created from our well-known licorice: Brussels Manneke.
We at Matthijs, as the manufacturer of the Manneke, are proud of this product and have decided to give the Manneke "a family. This means that in addition to the licorice Manneke, we now have fruity, sour and sweet Mannekes.
From now on there is also the Refreshing Manneke! A combination of the soft licorice & fresh peppermint flavor! And that too veggie.

Zuidwesthoek Business Award
In March 2016, the confectionery manufacturer Matthijs BV proudly emerged as the winner at the presentation of the "Zuidwesthoek Business Award 2015" in the trade, services & industry category. As a company, Matthijs was able to achieve this through tapping new markets and optimizing production efficiency. A huge reward after all the changes and explosive growth in recent years. 'I am proud to say that this has been made possible by all 100 employees of Matthijs BV' said director Walter Matthijs.
Matthijs is now officially 100 years old!
January 14, 2020 marks exactly 100 years since grandfather Matthijs started producing sugarcrafts. Two years later, in 1922, the company was officially registered with the Chamber of Commerce. It all started with a stove and a cooking pan in the barn of his own home. The very first product the family business started with was the famous Manneke Pis licorice. Since then, Matthijs has been producing not only licorice but also other recipes such as wine gum, gum & guimauve and the company has grown to an international level.
